Tour starts with drive to Uplistsikhe cave town. Uplistsikhe literally means ‘fortress of the lord,’ dates back as far as the Iron Age, and is one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia. The city covers an area of approximately 8 hectares. The Uplistsikhe cave complex has been on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage program since 2007. Next stop will be at Joseph Stalin’s Museum in Gori, which was established in 1951. The exhibition is divided into six halls in roughly chronological pattern, and has many items actually or allegedly owned by Stalin. The display concludes with one of twelve copies of the death mask of Stalin taken shortly after his death. The trip will conclude with a drive back to Tbilisi.
